David West RISE Above Award

Care Resources is fortunate to have so many hard-working staff members who go above and beyond their daily roles to serve our participants. In 2023, we formed the RISE Committee (Recognize, Inspire, Shine, Exceed the limits) so we can spotlight these outstanding employees! RISE recipients are nominated by their coworkers and chosen by a dedicated committee. Check out each month’s recipients below!

October 2025 – Special Recognition for the Care Resources Team
After a special nomination by a vendor in our building, this month’s RISE Above recognition goes to the entire Care Resources team, with particular appreciation for the primary care providers, clinic, and homecare staff. The nomination comes on the heels of our team responding to two separate medical emergencies involving employees of this nearby vendor with exceptional compassion and professionalism.

During the first incident, staff members responded immediately and collaboratively, expertly assessing the situation, maintaining a calm environment until emergency services arrived, and efficiently compiling essential information for the EMTs. Their actions reflected not only a rapid and effective response but also a profound commitment to the well-being of others. Additionally, many Care Resources employees proactively offered support and expressed genuine concern for the vendor’s team, further strengthening the partnership between the organizations.

Just days later, Care Resources staff once again responded without hesitation to a second urgent situation at the same vendor. The PCPs, clinic and other team members quickly mobilized to manage a challenging situation, providing critical assistance that helped stabilize the affected employee and maintain a safe environment. Other team members volunteered for vital roles, such as monitoring for the ambulance, demonstrating that a culture of immediate support and comprehensive care is deeply embedded within Care Resources.

We are pleased to report that both employees are recovering well. These incidents clearly highlight a team that consistently goes above and beyond in service to others.

Thank you, Team Care Resources, for your unwavering dedication—not only to your organization but also to the broader community you serve.

September 2025 – Diane G. (Day Center Aide)
Diane is a valued day center team member who serves as our shower aide. Diane consistently goes above and beyond expectations, often dedicating her personal time to acquire special items, such as perfumes, colognes and hair accessories, to enhance the well-being and dignity of our participants. Diane takes exceptional pride in her work, treating each participant with the same care and respect she would offer a family member. Her thoughtful gestures and attention to detail help our participants feel valued, confident and beautiful – sentiments frequently echoed by those in her care. We are truly fortunate to have team members like Diane, whose commitment makes a meaningful difference every day. Thank you, Diane, for your outstanding dedication and compassion.

August 2025 – Laurie H. (Administrative Assistant and Receptionist)
Laurie consistently engages with both staff and participants on a daily basis, ensuring they feel valued and respected. She goes above and beyond to truly listen to participants, understand their needs and desires and connect with their stories. Laurie genuinely prioritizes the participants’ well-being, and they eagerly look forward to seeing her each day. We are fortunate to have Laurie as part of our team, as she sets a positive tone for everyone who enters the Lowell building. Thanks for all you do, Laurie!

July 2025 – Kate C. (Administrative Assistant and Receptionist)
Kate consistently goes above and beyond in her role, providing invaluable assistance with staffing needs. Kate’s deep compassion for the participants is evident, as she has even established a walking routine with one of the participants who eagerly anticipates her visits. She has also been known to conduct mini one-on-one Bible studies for participants in need and has taken time out of her day to pray with others, helping to alleviate their anxiety. She brings significant strengths to her role, and we are incredibly fortunate to have her as part of our team. Kate demonstrates tremendous compassion and dedication to our participants, consistently showing a positive energy and personal touch in her work. Thanks for all you do, Kate!

June 2025 – Ron “RJ” E. (Universal Worker)
Ron is the ultimate team player and understands we all have the same goal. He is always stepping into any role to ensure participants are taken care of. He is a universal worker, but he does not need to be asked to assist. He always makes himself available to participants as well as staff. His attitude is, “whatever I can do to help, I will.” He is often there and available before we even have the chance to ask him. He jumps around to each department and sees where he can be the most helpful, especially in the kitchen and in the day rooms. He helps with daily meal prep and with serving meals in the day center. Additionally, he brings participants home in the van, one of them every Thursday afternoon. He also assists daily with unloading and reloading the buses. He even covers the front desk while the receptionist is at lunch. It’s not just all the extras RJ does, it’s his supportive and positive attitude he brings to work every day. RJ, you’re a shining example of why Care Resources is so special. You’re a hardworking, flexible professional who really cares about our participants and is happy to help out with whatever the need may be. Thank you and congratulations!

May 2025 – Barb R. (Occupational Therapist)
Barb has a heart of gold! She goes out of her way to give our participants time and attention regardless of how busy she is. She is an advocate for our people at her core, and it is clear how much she cares. As one recent example, she went above and beyond helping a participant after their hand surgery. She has spent hours on the phone coordinating care and therapy with the surgeon’s office and her family, making sure they are getting the hand therapy they need. She volunteered to attend the follow-up appointment to help advocate for their needs. She also had a participant she was seeing for a shoulder injury that shared she has never had anyone go through the effort Barb had for her, another example of her impact on participants. She approaches every participant with a holistic approach, making sure everything is considered and addressed. She ensures that participants are not having difficulty with feeding or other activities. Barb is dedicated and very genuine in her patient care! Additionally, Barb is very supportive of her co-workers. She brings a joyous and calming spirit, and is thoughtful and selfless. She is a great leader for the northeast huddle. Barb, we are lucky to have you on our team! Your patience and attention to detail is noticed and appreciated!

Becky is very good at advocating for our participants and helping them navigate difficult tasks in a patient and kind way. In a recent example, Becky assisted a participant who almost lost his apartment. She stepped in and assisted him to make sure that didn’t happen. Becky also recently assisted a participant in obtaining needed paperwork to avoid her power being shut off. She helped this participant communicate with the power company to solve the issue. Over the last several months, Becky has become the primary homecare personal care attendant for the Lowell group. She has always approached our participants with respect and dignity. She goes above and beyond in helping participants get organized and maintain their homes. She is also quick to recognize any type of concern and pass it along to the appropriate member of the Care Team. Becky is our eyes and ears when in homes and is very much appreciated by the Lowell care team. Thank you for all that you do, Becky! You are a shining example of Care Resources caregiving at its finest!

This demonstrated her attention to detail and determination. She’s been taking on more responsibilities and truly has been an asset to the team. Megan hasn’t been at Care Resources for a full year, yet she’s already such a valuable member of our team. She’s always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who asks and does so with compassion and determination. She’s brought lots of fresh new ideas, perspectives, and experiences to the Day Center and our participants, including her wonderful attitude and personality. She truly goes above and beyond. Tyce is someone who greets you with a smile and means it. He goes above and beyond almost daily. One nomination highlighted how Tyce helped to clean a participant’s apartment while providing emotional support. The participant had been struggling so when Tyce helped to clean their apartment and provide the emotional support that was needed, it made a huge difference in the participant’s life. On many occasions, you’ll also find Tyce helping to fix equipment in PT/OT because he likes to offer a hand to others when needed. December 2024 – Patty M.
Patty is always going above and beyond for our participants and her coworkers. She always takes the time to answer a question or take an important call, even after a night of being on-call. We’re fortunate to have Patty as a co-worker and our participants are even more fortunate to have someone like her attending to their needs with her genuine love and selflessness. One day, Patty spent an hour trying to convince a participant to go back home when they wanted to stay here. Her patience and genuine care for this participant, and other participants, convinced the participant to get on the bus and get home safely. She’s a shining example of a nurse and a team member; she also exemplifies excellence as a clinician. Patty, thank you for being such a valuable member of the Care Resources PACE Team!

November 2024 Matt M. (Home Care RN)
Matt was nominated because he goes the extra mile to keep his co-workers and others safe. An example of this was when he went outside the facility to spray a large bee nest to keep our participants and other co-workers safe from being stung. He continued going outside multiple times to spray the area and ensure it was safe for everyone. A wonderful addition to Care Resources, Matt is always willing to help out our participants in whatever way they need. Matt, thank you for being a great team member!

September 2024 David R. (Lead Scheduler)
David was nominated because of his kindness and willingness to always help out, even at the last minute. One prime example is when David donated his own money to help one of our participants safely surrender their cats because the participant didn’t have enough funds. His attitude is always pleasant and his constant smile brightens everyone’s day. David, thank you for all that you do and congratulations!

August 2024 Isamar G. (Lead Scheduler)

”Izzy” is an inspiration on how one can grow their career while giving back. She began her career at Care Resources PACE in the Day Center as an aide for our participants. Because of her growing skills and abilities, she was promoted to Lead Scheduler. She coordinates the specialty providers, makes outside appointments, and has many other duties. Izzy completes all of her tasks without reminders, and those that work with her know she’ll get the job done every time. She deserves a RISE award for always offering a helping hand anytime she’s available. She helps translate patient concerns and provider plans for participants who speak Spanish and may need help communicating. In turn, it has helped avoid unnecessary testing and ER visits. She’s able to educate participants and their families and bridge the gap for when language and cultural differences can be a barrier in providing the best care possible. Izzy, thank you for being a part of our team, we’re so lucky to have you!

July 2024 Melissa R. (Day Center PCA)

Melissa was nominated because of her compassion, commitment, and love for participants. Earlier this year, Melissa was on an escort when she noticed a flower delivery van was parked in the shop’s only handicapped parking spot. She called the flower company to report this and as a thank you, the shop gave her a $100 voucher. Rather than use the voucher for herself, she asked if she could get 100 green carnations for our participants on St. Patrick’s Day. The shop agreed to give her some carnations but told her the total cost would exceed the voucher. Melissa didn’t give up though and was able to get all 100 carnations after contacting their suppliers. That day, she dressed up as a leprechaun and handed out the flowers to participants. On holidays and spirit weeks, she’s known to put on fun inflatable costumes and participants love having their pictures taken with her. In addition to Melissa’s kind and fun spirit, she’s also extremely organized, especially when getting participants on the bus. She’s a team player who goes out of her way to be helpful to all staff and is always ready to help wherever needed. Melissa, thank you for all that you do for our participants!

June 2024 Lorelei S. (Recreational Therapist)

Lorelei is always helpful, supportive, and takes on responsibilities whenever she sees a need while remaining calm in the process. A prime example of this was when Lorelei jumped into action during a flooding incident in the building. She grabbed a mop and helped clean up without hesitation. She’s very respected by her co-workers, and jumps in to help every discipline on the Northwest team as needed. She’s become a fourth member of the team for Day Room B. She often leaves her own work as a Recreational Therapist to assist and goes above and beyond by stepping into the role of a Participant Care Assistant (PCA) as needed. She’s become someone the team can always count on to be there and help out. Lorelei, thank you for being such a great example of what it means to be a team player and always looking out for your co-workers!

May 2024 Denise W. (Social Worker)

Denise is always pleasant and kind to participants and truly cares about their needs. When you go to her with participant concerns, she listens and addresses any concerns they may have. She’s always smiling and goes out of her way to go to the Day Center to visit participants on a daily basis. She makes our participants laugh and feel special when they come to the Day Center. Denise is always willing to share her considerable knowledge and help whenever needed. She’s always there with her great sense of humor to brighten someone else’s day. Thank you Denise, we think you’re awesome!

April 2024 Tara D. (Home Health Aide)

Tara accepts difficult assignments without hesitation, never complains, and is always willing to help. She has a kind heart and takes great care of participants! An example of this was when she visited a participant’s home while they were in the hospital to check on their pet and make sure they were okay. Another participant shared her life was immeasurably better thanks to Tara. She was so thankful for her care and presence in her life and for all of the joy Tara brings to her. Tara, we’re so lucky to have you on our team! Your dedication to our participants is amazing!

March 2024 Keoina B. (Recreational Therapy Assistant)

Keoina always goes above and beyond in her work and is amazing. Recently, she helped plan a photoshoot for participants and staff members. She took the time to pair participants with staff they had relationships with to ensure they were comfortable and at ease. She has worked extremely hard every February to make Black History Month very special for both participants and staff. She put in extra hours, made numerous calls to set up programs and guest speakers, and went above and beyond in setting up the Black History Museum. Keoina is an amazing person who has a special heart for our participants (and others) and deserves this recognition!

February 2024 Kelly M. (Social Worker)

Kelly goes above and beyond every day to provide support to participants who attend the Center. She always makes herself available to talk when needed, often problem-solving, providing information, and reassurance. There was one particular participant who would always insist on talking to Kelly each time he attended the Center. No matter how busy she was, Kelly would always show up to talk to him and provide comfort. His passing was very difficult for staff, and Kelly would help them during this difficult time by listening and providing comfort when it was needed. Kelly takes every chance to show her participants they are important and worthy of a good quality of life. She tirelessly goes out of her way to help all participants achieve their goals. A participant recently shared how thankful they are for Kelly, for her compassion, and for all that she has done for them. Kelly, you’re a shining example of what our participants deserve: patience, perseverance, and a warm caring heart. Thank you for all that you do!

January 2024 – Racquel “Rockie” R. (Associate Manager of Day Center & Dietary Services)

She also helps out in other areas including transportation or wherever she’s needed. She’s a problem solver, a hard worker, and is dedicated to the wellbeing of both participants and staff. She’s selfless and helps out her team personally if they need her and always puts participants first. Thank you Rockie and congratulations!
