YMCA Veggie Van at Care Resources Featured on WZZM13

The YMCA Veggie Van made a stop at Care Resources on Feb. 10, bringing fresh fruits and vegetables directly to older adults who might otherwise struggle to access healthy food.

The Veggie Van visits the Grand Rapids day center every other Tuesday, setting up tables filled with locally sourced produce, eggs, nuts and other items. Participants use their own money to purchase groceries, just like at a traditional farmers market.

“I think the Veggie Van and Care Resources collaboration is really important for our participants to maintain that sense of independence and agency over their own choices,” said Kelli Greer, provider relations liaison at Care Resources. “Something that we might take for granted is going to the grocery store on our own, and a lot of these participants aren’t able to get there, maybe due to transportation or just accessibility.”
