Care Resources PACE Chief Executive Officer Kimberly Smith has been named one of the Notable Leaders in Health Care by Crain’s Grand Rapids Business.

Smith has more than 25 years of health care expertise and a true passion for helping older adults. She is one of 24 health care leaders recognized by the publication for providing high-quality, whole-person care, collaborating with other agencies and advocating within industry groups. Honorees are selected through a peer nomination and editorial review process.

Smith joined Care Resources as CEO in September 2024. The nonprofit is a Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly, or PACE®, with more than 200 team members who serve 400+ older adults through centers in Grand Rapids and Lowell, as well as an extensive in-home support program. Smith is responsible for administrative, professional, clinical, financial, quality, compliance and other programmatic aspects so the organization can provide safe, effective and efficient health care services.

Smith joined Care Resources as the organization was preparing to open its second day center. The $7.1 million facility in Lowell Township allows the organization to serve up to 125 more participants and create approximately 30 jobs. Smith was instrumental in the successful opening of the center in January 2025 and in growing participants by 33% over 2025, as well as adding four new team members to support the growth.

In addition to her leadership at Care Resources, Smith serves as a board member of the PACE Association of Michigan, a nonprofit that provides leadership and support for the growth, innovation, quality and success of the PACE model of care. She previously served on the board of the Health Care Association of Michigan from 2019-2024.

Prior to joining Care Resources, Smith spent 22 years at Corewell Health, where she held several leadership positions and provided strategic direction for teams across the health system’s continuing care entities. Smith assisted with the direction and oversight of the construction of two new skilled nursing facilities, led and coordinated Corewell’s post-acute referral management processes and served as the compliance officer. In her last role with the organization, Smith served as senior director of skilled nursing facilities for seven years, leading Corewell’s eight rehabilitation and nursing centers, two assisted and independent living communities and three adult foster care homes.

Smith holds a Master of Social Work degree from Grand Valley State University, a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Therapeutic Recreation from Central Michigan University and a Nursing Home Administrator licensure with the State of Michigan.
